Backstage Beauty: Erro Spring 2011 with MAC Cosmetics

Key artist Lyne Desnoyers used MAC Cosmetics to create a look inspired by fabrics, knits, and textures from the collection. The look was designed to be worn in, very beautiful, but with an element of untouchable. The skin was breathable, dusted very lightly with Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, and highlighted with a metallic shadow to add additional texture to the skin. To keep the look distressed, Lyne play with pencils and stains, adding intensity in very specific shapes, while adding highlights described as "little touches" where light would hit. There was no mascara used to create the look.

Fast Forward: Gottex Spring 2011 Preview

Every spring season, Gottex sends some of the most stunning and creative swimsuits down the runway. This season, designer Molly Grad's inspiration was quite colorful:

"I was drawn to color this season. Both subtle shades and brighter ones. I was fascinated with how it would then be applied/placed on the body."

For swimwear, colors are the obvious choice. I'm curious if some of these colors will be more natural, following the designers who have shared their inspiration for 2011.

Revisit The Runway: The Blonds Fall 2010 Runway Show

During an episode of The City (I know, I know), the wise Robbie Meyers of Elle said "In our industry, there are two types of people: work horses and show ponies." At first glance, The Blonds runway show might be taken as a "show pony" event, due to the pomp, circumstance, and fabulous attendees peppered along the runway. However upon closer examination, the line is full of "work horses" One of the looks went straight from the runway into Miley Cyrus' video for "Can't Be Tamed". Patricia Field used their pieces in Sex and the City 2 (remember Samantha's red dress with the gorgeous silver spikes?), and Katy Perry is a long time red carpet devotee. To put it mildly, The Blonds create show stopping numbers. On the runway, the looks were made complete with makeup by MAC, nails by CND, and towering heels by Christian Louboutin.

Fast Forward: Elise Øverland Spring 2011 Preview

Elise Øverland collections always have a fun, downtown rocker vibe, mixed with a colorful sense of fun. Her aesthetic has stayed firmly rooted in rock & roll goodness, all the way back to when she was a Parsons student being asked to design costumes for Aerosmith. For Spring 2011:

Elise is inspired by Antonioni's 60's Movie "Blow up" and old African Colonial Uniforms, among other points of reference.

"Sometimes, reality is the strangest fantasy of all" from the theatrical trailer for "Blow Up" (below).

If the inspiration is any indication, we'll certainly be in for an interesting interpretation of rock & roll.

Fast Forward: Diego Binetti Spring 2011 Preview

Bueno Aires born designer, Diego Binetti, has turned to Mother Earth as inspiration for Spring 2011.

For spring/summer season, Diego looks to Mother Earth for inspiration. Utilizing earthy color tones like beige, yellows, blues and greens, Diego was able to create a collection that embodies the woman in her own domain as a goddess, confident, elegant, and passionate. “I design for a woman who owns her domain and has a passion for life. I have a love and devotion that I invest into my work every day which excited me and keeps me going. I am excited to show in Lincoln Center and think that this season will be a hit for all!” – Diego Binetti
