Introducing Friends of Style IT, a new interview series that offers a bit of insight (plus a side serving of whit and giggles) into the lives of some of the most superhuman people I know.
A year and a half ago, I met the ruggedly handsome Jahn Hall while working on set at a lookbook shoot. Since then, he's held a special place in my heart, not only because he gives the best hugs, but because he's crazy talented and has such a big heart. He recently launched BKLYN Dry Goods with his friend, Kurt Uhlendorf. Jahn's also a super talented photographer, taking some of my favorite OOTDs (here and here). For a look at his editorial work, check out his Facebook page. If all of that weren't enough, he lives in a renovated chocolate factory. I mean, how cool is that?
If you aren't already crushing on Jahn (shame on you), then read his charming answers to my questions below.
How did you get your start in the industry?
It was a complete accident. I wanted to be a teacher. The fashion gods apparently had another idea. Despite that, I've always had it in me. My first job was doing windows for my hometown's local department store in the 80s. I was 15.
What's the funniest fashion mishap that you've witnessed? Bonus points if it's actually happened to you.
I grew up in the 80s & 90s. That was nearly 20 years fashion mishaps. As for the masses, I still can't get down with the sea of guys in poorly fitting bootcut jeans over square-toed sneaker / dress shoe hybrids worn with an untucked dress shirt (anything with collar stays). Bonus points if the shirt has French cuffs.
What is the best piece of advice that you've ever received?
If you always give what you always gave, you'll always get what you always got.
The last album you downloaded was.....
A 100 track compendium of music from the 20s.
