After a couple of weeks of searching, I finally found OPI's Black Shatter at a Ricky's location. Admittedly, finding the latest nail polish collections is just another of the many quirks that challenge those of us living in NYC. When I purchased the Shatter, I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do with it, but I knew that it was new, exciting and I had to have it.
When I came home, I decided to try an experiment to see what worked with the shatter and what didn't. Sure, OPI is pairing it with the latest glitter polishes from Katy Perry & Serena Williams, however what would it look like with neons? Mattes? Metallics? I selected 20 of my favorite shades, from light to dark, and everything in between.
A few observations - the easiest color to apply the shatter on top of was MAC's Studded, a matte, glittery silver. The lighter colors, for example Sally Hansen's Lavender Cloud, shows streaking between the crackles more easily than something with a little more color, like Ginger + Liz's Can You Keep A Secret?. Of course neon polishes look fantastic, metallics can be fun and darker shades make the shatter more difficult to see. Another great use for Shatter is to use with colors that you no longer wear or found unflattering, like Barry M's Mint Green. My friend Michelle at All Lacquered Up shares her findings in regards to how thick or how thin the coat is and how it affects the Shatter pattern.
Although I'm still Shellac'd, I'm excited to try this with the next polish I try. Perhaps I will pair it with Milani's Totally 80's....who knows!
Have you tried OPI's Black Shatter? Does it interest you?

During the Holidays, it feels like everything is amplified. The amount of electricity it's acceptable to use, the amount of sequins you want to wear (day or night) and the (sometimes over)use of the color red. I'm not going to lie - red is a power color for me all year long, but something about the Holiday season makes me want to wear red, all day every day.
