The Golden Globes is probably the biggest awards show of the season, encompassing movies, television and just about any celebrity that can squeeze onto the carpet. NBC's red carpet pre-show host Carson Daily kept referring to it as a "celebrity steakhouse". Tonight's show brought out the best, worst and most questionable fashion choices in today's hottest celebrities. Judgement aside, it's always nice to see Hollywood have an excuse to get together under one roof and consumer copious amounts of alcohol. Now on to the fashion!
Best Dressed
Obvious choice: Olivia Wilde in Marchesa
Best use of detail: Elisabeth Banks in custom Donna Karan
Wish that she had a portable steamer: Julianne Moore in Lanvin
Worst Dressed
Walking tropical float: Heidi Klum in Marc Jacobs
Did someone say Flower Bomb? Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf
Who did this to you? Hope Davis
Omitted on purpose: Michelle Williams in altered Valentino
Mean & Green
Emerald overtook red as the temporary power color for the evening. Hollywood's heavy hitters Angelina Jolie (in Versace)and Catherine Zeta Jones (in Monique Lhuillier), plus Mila Kunis (in Vera Wang) and Elisabeth Banks (in custom Donna Karan), all chose the deeply pigmented jewel tone.
For Once, Black Is Boring
Some call the Golden Globes the biggest party of the season, so why did so many celebs arrive dressed to attend a funeral? I'm looking at you Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Julia Stiles, Jennifer Lawrence (in Louis Vuitton), Julianne Hough (in Marchesa), Kelly Osbourne, Melissa Leo (in Marc Bouwer) and Piper Perabo.
Stop - You'll Make Me Blush
Pantone unleashed a monster when they declared Honeysuckle, a vibrant pink, the color for 2011. Pink was all over the red carpet, in shades varying from the lightest blush to the most vibrant fuchsia - only Claire Danes (in custom Calvin Klein Collection) brought Honeysuckle to life. Lea Michelle (in Oscar de la Renta), Natalie Portman (in Viktor & Rolf) and Naya Rivera opted for the softer side of pink, while Julianne Moore (in Lanvin) shocked in a color even Elsa Schiaparelli could be proud of.
Nude Attitude
The nude tidal wave was one that I'm convinced no one saw coming, but as they say - great minds think alike. 10 great minds, in fact (with two near-nude honorable mentions, not including the ladies who opted for blush, above). Carrie Underwood, Dianna Agron, Heather Morris, Julie Bowen, Kaley Cuoco (in Katharine Kidd), Kelly MacDonald (in J.Mendel), Sandra Bullock (in L'Wren Scott), Sarah Highland (in Max Azria Atelier) and Scarlett Johansson breathed a collective neutral sigh.
Can You Hear Me Now?
The adage "bigger is better" can apply to many things - most notably bank accounts, energy and closet space - however when it comes to the volume of your dress, there is such a thing as overkill. The ladies dialing up the volume were Olivia Wilde (in Marchesa), Lea Michelle (in Oscar de la Renta), Kaley Cuoco (in Katharine Kidd), Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter (in Vivienne Westwood) and Mandy Moore.
