Tonight I enjoyed the opportunity to shop Gilt Groupe's now sold out Warehouse Sale, the night before it opens to the public. The event venue, the Altman Building, is no stranger to fashion related events. The layout for Gilt's event was simple: handbags & accessories front and center, men's and home to the right, shoes in the back and women's on the left (with a very small children's section near the fitting rooms even beyond that). Women's clothing definitely makes up the majority of the inventory. The men's section is small big mighty and the home section is just....strange. After spending 90 minutes enjoying cocktails, cookies and bargains, I have a few tips:
- Selection may appear slim, but after speaking to a member of the Gilt team, I was told that they have stock reserved for each time slot they sold tickets for. How democratic!
- The handbag section is definitely going to get feisty. It's confined to half a table, but the prices are good. Bag pricing is pretty inconsistent - if there are multiple pieces of the same item, be sure to check the tags for the lowest price (and note that tags hiding on the inside can be marked with even lower prices!). Brands spotted include: Z Spoke, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Furla, L.A.M.B. and Rebecca Minkoff.
- The Minkoff bags were the hottest commodity: Mini MABs going from $100 - 150, MACs $100 , Nikki Hobos $100 - $150
- The clothing section is incredibly neatly organized, sorted by size. Finds from the night include $175 Pucci, McQueen and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
- Surprisingly, I saw no sign of jewelry. Outside of handbags and shoes, the closest thing I saw to accessories were Zac Posen for Wolford tights, mismatched bikinis and belts.
- The home section was the most... interesting. Items ranged from chicken suits (no, really) to candles, pillows and duvet covers. I'm still at a loss for words over the chicken suits.

After a couple of weeks of searching, I finally found OPI's Black Shatter at a Ricky's location. Admittedly, finding the latest nail polish collections is just another of the many quirks that challenge those of us living in NYC. When I purchased the Shatter, I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do with it, but I knew that it was new, exciting and I had to have it.

My feeling about Eva Mendes have always been mixed. She's an absolutely beautiful woman with respectable acting talents, however I find that her outfits can sometimes border on unnecessarily sexual (though I'm sure her male fans and Calvin Klein intimates don't mind). The olive green full circle skirt that she's rocking in the photo above is a nice departure from Herve Leger dresses and underwear-inspired ensembles.
As I was watching the final scenes of last night's Pretty Little Liars (episode 1x13, Know Your Frenemies), I couldn't help thinking to myself, as I do in every episode, that I was absolutely in love with Lucy Hale's makeup. Of course the look was nothing ground breaking or revolutionary, however I was inspired to recreate the look on myself this morning. (Please excuse everything but the makeup in the photo - a freezing rain is attacking NYC.)
Pantene's Celebrity Stylist Danilo worked with Glee's Dianna Agron for last night's Golden Globes to create a look that was both romantic and glamorous. Danilo's thoughts on the style: “When you style hair for the red carpet you have to take into account that it must look good from every angle,” said Danilo. “I wanted her hair to have the ability to be undone, have movement, and be shiny, but didn’t want her to worry about it all night which is why a half-up style was the perfect choice.” Although she was out the door before he knew it, Danilo thought of the style – “It was very simple, very pretty hair that was clean, contemporary Hollywood glamour.”
