I couldn’t wait to share my excitement with you! Today is the debut of Coutorture’s latest original editorial, The Sun Doesn’t Care, is based upon the idea that no matter how much you’d like to stay cool, the Summer sun is simply going to melt you away. The reason I am so incredibly excited for this shoot is that I did the makeup! I’ll be sharing the products on Coutorture later in the week.

The Sun Doesn’t Care - New Coutorture Editorial
Eva Green Heats Up French Glamour August 2008
There is something to be said for a woman who stuns and awes merely with her beauty. There are very few women who can do this on a consistent basis (and the only other woman I can think of is Dita Von Teese). Upon seeing Eva Green in Dior’s Midnight Poison ads, I thought her beauty was merely due to styling and fantastic airbrushing. Every photo I have seen of her since has lived up to the hype, including her appearance in this month’s French Glamour. The boudoir inspired shoot will certainly sizzle up your day (as if the Summer sun isn’t baking us all to a crisp as is). If you don’t believe me, check out the photos for yourself.
Kate Moss in American Vogue August 2008
Kate Moss classes it up in American Vogue’s August 2008 issue. I’m already feeling the urge to wear trench coats, pointy toe pumps and darker lipstick while inside my house. Once outside, I want to strip down, wear head scarves and complain about the heat. I’m proud to see that stylists are starting to dress Kate Moss age appropriately instead of tarting her up. It’s time we fully embrace our true age, don’t you think?
Friday Funnies: Bushwick’s Ghetto Beat Ice Cream Trucks
Living in Bushwick, Brooklyn provides a constant stream of amusement. From the hip streetwear kids to the Puerto Rican snowcone vendors, Bushwick has it’s own special charm. I get the biggest kick from turning a corner and hearing the faint sound of a ghetto beat ice cream truck. You might be wondering what a ghetto beat ice cream truck is exactly, but don’t worry. I bring you video evidence that although shaky, should totally make your Friday afternoon.
Victoria Beckham In Allure August 2008
Victoria Beckham may be called many things, but stupid she isn’t. Obviously the gal has media savvy and a pretty decent head on her shoulders (or at least a good stylist). Her softness will stun and amaze as you browse the photos of her in Allure magazine’s August 2008 issue.
Scarlett Johansson & The Funniest Email Ever
Over at Coutorture, we recently posted former Mooka Kinney designer Rachel Antonoff’s latest lookbook, which just happened to have actresses Scarlett Johansson and Alia Shawkat. To make a long story short, I just received the strangest email. Apparently some spammer in Germany wanted to alert me that Scarlett Johansson is actually a clone of another human being, and the FBI might become involved. I hope this brings a smile to your Friday.
Hello dear Ms. [redacted]!
I would like inform you that Scarlett Johansson (actress) actually is a clone from original person, who has nothing with acting career. That clone was created illegally by using stolen biological material. Original person is very nice (not d**n sexy), most important - CHRISTIAN young lady!
I’ll tell you guys more, that clones (it’s not only one) made in GERMANY - world leader manufacturer of humans clones, it is in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, North Bavaria, Mr. Helmut Kohl home town. You can not even imaging the scale of the cloning activity. But warning! Helmut Kohl clone staff 100% controlling all their clones spreading around the world, they are very accurate with that, some of them are still NAZI type disciplined and mind controlled clones, so be careful get close with clones you will be controlled as well. Think wise..
Apparently those clones are very actively shown on your website. This is just a warning, because original person is not happy about those images and video, rumors and etc., in that way it would be really nice if you try slow down that ”actress” career development on your magazine, original Scarlett’s parents will really appreciated that. Please do that, do not wait until FBI agent give you a call with questions. Please remember that original family did not authorize any activity with stolen biological materials, no matter what form it was created, it all need to be return back to original family control to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. If you ignore warning after this message, there can happen law suit..Original Scarlett is not engage!
Her close friend Serg G.
P.S.
H.R. 534, the Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2003, was introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives on February 5, 2003. After discussion, it was passed on February 27 by a vote of 241-155. It now moves on to the Senate for consideration. This bill makes it unlawful for any person or entity to perform or participate in human cloning, or to ship or receive embryos produced by human cloning. The penalties are imprisonment of up to 10 years and fines of $1 million or more.
These now join other nations as diverse as Norway, Australia, and Germany, which had already added cloning for any purpose to their criminal code. And in Germany where it carries a penalty of five years imprisonment they know a thing or two about unethical science.
And The Brillante Award Goes To...Style IT!

Well I never thought I'd see the day...when Style IT would be awarded the prestigious Brillante Award. My gal Jill from Trend de la Creme bestowed this wonderful honor upon me. Because I'm totally looking for a way to convince Jill to visit New York, I am fully expecting my award to be hand delivered.
Part of the allure and prestige of the Brillante Award is the pleasure of passing along the love to seven other blogs. Naturally I picked 7 of my best and most brilliant gal pals to receive this honor.
- Crosby of Pr Couture. Crosby is by far one of most intelligent and well spoken women I have even encountered. Besides personally being wonderful, her innovative blog fills a much ignored niche in the fashion PR blogosphere.
- Speaking of, one cannot discuss niche blogging without referring to Michelle of All Lacquered Up. There is not a more committed or more passionate blogger than Michelle, and her passion is palpable across her postings.
- Tee of Trash Bag Aesthetics is one crazy gal, but in the good way. She is crazy about Starbucks, streetwear and blogging, often waking up at 3 am to get her blogging day started. That is dedication!
- You cannot find a kinder, more mild mannered or professional woman than Kimmie of See Pretty Things and The Kitten Lounge. Not only does she run two successful blogs, she is also a professional in the fashion industry and a jewelry designer. She is Super Girl!
- Speaking of hard working gals, I couldn't make a list of my gal pals without mentioning Charu of Butterfly Diary. Her innovative cartoon posts are sure to delight. I cannot wait to see where her brain takes us next.
- Alison of My Wardrobe Today and Wardrobe Oxygen is my blogging inspiration. She keeps me motivated, inspired and most of all sane. Without Alison, I could not make it through the day (seriously).
- Last but certainly not least is Julie of Almost Girl. Honestly, Julie has more brilliance in her hair follicles than most of us have contained in both sides of our brain. Even at 24, her talent is light years away from anything I could hope to achieve.
A Unanimous Farewell
Tonight Mr. Man, Julie and I went to see The Dark Knight. I’m not typically the blow-em-up, shoot-em-down kind of gal, but with the amount of rabid fan based momentum driving this film, it’s hard not to get caught up in the hype behind Heath Ledger’s last movie.
After casually checking Fandango around 1pm for any ticket openings, we purchased tickets for the 10:50 pm showing in Union Square. We arrived to the show nearly 2 hours early and were quickly ushered outside to stand in the heat and humidity. Clearly with the line wrapping nearly around the block, we weren’t in for an ordinary experience.
Honestly, the film wasn’t that good. Like so many others in the Batman franchise, it ran far too long for my attention span. Sure, the action shots were good and “yay! Batman!” but I didn’t pay $12 to see Batman. I paid $12 to see Heath Ledger go down in a blaze of glory. And he did. His performance was riveting, sometimes comedic but always magnetic. The role was demanding, but Heath added his own colors and nuances to create the perfect legacy. It’s a shame he’s been deprived of the opportunity to reprise his role.
I, like so many other moviegoers this weekend, didn’t attend the film for the special effects and the lure of a star studded cast. We gathered together to attend the only memorial we were given, and opened our wallets to pay tribute.
Beachy Summer Hair
For a long time, I've craved the perfect, wavy beach hair. Much like the model to the left, with her lovely texturized hair that doesn't appear crunchy, I too desired that result. I'd heard about other sea salt type texturizers, but I'd never really believed they could be effective for my fine, limp hair. Of course I was also limited by my willingness to purchase products I was unsure about.
AloSun has created two inexpensive products designed to help you achieve that perfect Victoria's Secret bikini model hair. The AloSun Hydrating Hair Mask ($5.00) has many features I was excited about. First of all, I loved the $5.00 price tag, and the fact that the 1.75 oz size makes it perfect for keeping your hair in tact at home or on vacation. I also loved the ingredients (aloe, olive fruit oil, sweet almond oil) and the way the scent transported me from my shower in Brooklyn to an island far far away.
I was equally as excited to try the AloSun Sea Salt Hair Spray ($5.00), however it's not the right formulation for my fine & oily prone hair. The scent instantly reminds you of the ocean, but the formula was too heavy and weighed my hair down. If your hair texture is a little more coarse, I'd recommend checking this product out, for it's certainly not for the faint of heart.
This experience taught me to be brave and try other hair texturizing products. While shopping at CVS, on a whim I picked up SunSilk's Waves of Envy Sea Mist texturizing spray. As with any product, if you don't use it correctly, you won't see desired results. I learned from reading the AloSun label it's best to twist your hair into rope-like sections to achieve the best beach hair. After your hair has had the opportunity to set, gently unwind the rope sections and voila! Hooray for beach hair. The difference between the SunSilk and AloSun texturizers is definitely the formula. The SunSilk formula uses less oil and is perfect for my hair type - dare I even say drying. I do notice a significant change in the thickness. All in all, I've used the SunSilk product nearly every day since I've purchased it. I appreciate the added thickness and how much easier my hair is to style. Point proven - you don't have to be a Victoria's Secret model to have great beachy hair!
Head Over Heels
There are those moments when time seems to stop. You can hear your heart beating in your ears as you unconsciously hold your breath. Your palms begin to sweat and drool slowly creeps from the corners of your mouth. Your eyes begin to cross as you fall into a trance: it's love. Pure fashion love.
that's exactly how I felt when I saw the photo of this Yohji Yamamoto bag on In My Bag. Friends and colleagues have called me crazy, called the bag obscene, but I am sticking to my gut reaction. To me, this bag makes sense. Standing 6'2" and on the plus size, proportionally this bag would be an accent, not a focal point. Lemmings can go after the latest "it" bag every season, but I'll save my hard earned money for those moments when you know a purchase is right. Unfortunately, hard as I may try, I cannot find a single crumb that would lead me to this bag, other than the photo.
As much as I swoon to own a piece by Yohji Yamamoto, I can make do. With a little creativity, this bag is easily replicated. Pair large frame hinges with excellent draping skills and I can easily recreate this bag.
When have you fallen head over heels in fashion love? If you could find/afford the item, what did you do?
