Holiday Gift Guide: The Art Of Gifting
The Holidays can do many things - excite, overwhelm you and your bank account, frustrate and even cause you to second guess you relationship with one. By and large, shopping for a sizeable group of people can leave your head hanging and your wallet empty. This season, however, I promise you can get a leg up on gift giving.
1: Think outside the box (and gift cards)
You're scrambling to find a last minute gift and suddenly, you get lazy - you purchase a gift card. The truth is there are many darling, heartfelt gifts you can purchase online and have them delivered lickity-split. Please, friends don't buy friends gift cards. They're the easy way out. Besides, you can return 90% of purchases to stores if you don't like a gift you've been given.
2: Think exclusive and limited edition
Many stores and brands are offering gift sets exclusive to their store. What's better than knowing a only a small quantiity of your special gift was produced? Bonus points if it's in special packaging - the receipient will think of you every time they use it.
3: Set a budget
We can all go overboard when it comes to gift giving - you spend far more than you intended to, but they just HAVE to have that gift? You can find the perfect gift for anyone - there is more than one. Set boundaries and budgets and you'll find yourself having a merrier Holiday season, knowing that come January 1 you're not broke as a joke.
4: Don't underestimate the value of services and handmade gifts
There are plenty of cool services out there, and you can buy someone a 6 month or 1 year's subscription. Your gift will be both thoughtful and purposeful without having to be overly designed. If you're on a super tight budget, consider making gifts. I know it sounds cheesy and artsy-craftsy, but you can pull off something cute on very little moolah. Besides, if you didn't have the money to buy them something, you could at least make them something.

CHîa New York Spring 2009 Handbags
I love that we have an opportunity to preview new shiny pretty things in while it's dreadfully cold outside. To be honest, I never feel like we're that happy with the current season, especially with how easily accessible information is these days. We're always looking ahead.
And in that spirit, I share with you CHîa New York's Spring 2009. The designer, June Chang, is a recent graduate of FIT, and based her Spring collection off vintage perfume bottles collected in Venice. The details are spot on, and make these bags interesting without being overstated. These bags are surprisingly affordable, with prices ranging from $297 to $495. Not exactly budget, but certainly not breaking the bank.
You can find CHîa bags at montmartre, True Boutique, Shop, Boutique Fifty-Two, Verve, Blue Bag, Girl Cat and Delfino in New York City and Bess & Loie in Chicago.
Preview Of The Harajuku Lovers Fragrance Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Float
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade will always hold a special place in my heart - no matter my age. I still remember my mother making sure I was up early enough to see every float and musical performance. So naturally, when I was invited to preview the Harajuku Lovers float for the big day, I couldn't resist.
It was interesting to learn all the behind the scenes preparations that go into a float like this. The floats are created in a warehouse by Macy's creative team. In addition to sponsoring the float, Harajuku Lovers Fragrances will be sending street teams out on the day of the parade, handing out fragrance samples to those in the parade vacinity. Plus, the Harajuku girls will be dancing on the float to the Harajuku Lovers theme song.
If you're a fan of Japanese culture, Gwen Stephani, or the Harajuku girls and live in the NYC area, it will totally be worth your time to check out the parade.

Live On SNL - Beyonce VS Backup Dancer
(not to readers: this post has been updated with a similar performance - NBC Universal gets their panties in a bunch and has taken down every video of the performance) I'm not the biggest Beyonce supporter, however her new single "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" is so catchy, I can hardly stop listening to it. I love the video, so I was enthusiastic when I learned she would be performing on last night's Saturday Night Live broadcast. Imagine my surprise and delight when my attention was was taken away from Queen Beyonce (or Sasha Fierce as she would like us to call her these days) by quite the spuky...er, spastic backup dancer. Mr. Man and I laughed all the way through the performance, but I want to know from you - who is more fun to watch?
Victoria's Secret 2009 Fashion Show Photos
The Victoria's Secret fashion show doesn't offer up anything radically different year to year - gorgeous women in frilly lingerie that never actually hits the sales floor, which makes it pretty much like every other runway show. With all that being said, it's always exciting to dream big, dream sexy, and hope that someday someone will magically put a pair of sky-high stilettos and angel wings on you for your stomp down the runway. The official show airs December 3 at 10pm est on CBS.
