I'm not sure whether it's my equestrian past from Arkansas that's subconsciously sneaking up on me or I'm feeling the need for an extra bit of luck, but I can't get the thought of a darling pair of horseshoe stud earrings out of my mind.
The instant I saw these Gorjana Horseshoe Studs, I instantly knew they belonged on my ears. With brushed 18k gold, these studs are 1/2" an inch wide, which just happens to be just about the perfect size for a pair of studs.
Superstition says that you should always keep the ends of a horseshoe pointed up so your luck doesn't run out - keep those ends up, ladies!
Studs, spikes, feathers and chains are popping up everywhere in jewelry these days. From earrings to necklaces, on cuffs and rings, jewelry designers are feeling a bit more rock & roll than sweet & prim. I personally love my jewelry to be loud, bold and with a little edge.
If you pop into any store, mass or boutique, you'll see tops with ornate details on the shoulders (even Forever 21 has them). A brand called Babette Epaulette has taken the detailed shoulder to the next level by creating jewelry specifically designed to be worn on your shoulder.
While I love the idea in theory, I'm not sure the cross-body style would be flattering on anyone other than a twig. The pieces are beautiful and definitely make a statement - but, what I want to know is:
These days, if you were to mention Guinness in fashion circles, people might instantly think of fashion icon Daphne Guinness, but there's another fashion Guinness that has been making quirky accessories since before the magic of the internet introduced us to Daphne Guinness.
Lulu Guinness is a designer best known for her signature clutch - a pair a bright red, lacquered lips. Her style is equal parts quirky, charming and delightful, with whimsical elements like flowers, birds, silhouettes and other feminine details. On top of producing darling accessories that any girl would be lucky to own, her line is affordably priced, making it accessible for almost everyone who wants a piece of Guinness.
My pick for this Holiday season are the Red Pave Crystal Lip Earrings. These studs pack a punch, lacqured & studded with red, they're sure to spice up any outfit that is needing that extra touch. Pair them with a classic red lipstick and you've made the quite the "read my lips" statement.
The Red Pave Crystal Lip earrings retail for about $65 at Lulu Guinness stores & LuluGuinness.com.
Do you have a friend who loves anything studded (Ms. Eye4Style, I'm looking at you)? I love studs on my clothing, studs on my shoes, studs on my bags and especially studs on my accessories. In fact, I've been on the hunt for the perfect pair of studded hoops that would last for more than 5 wears for a few months now.
I won't lie, when I first saw Jennifer Lopez's vide for "Fresh Out The Oven", my first thought was 'this song is really bad!' and my second thought was 'her studded jewelry is fantastic!'. It just so happens that Noir Jewelry provided all the amazing studded items for the video. Not to mention, their prices are reasonable.
The Brass Pyramid Spike large pyramid stud earrings are available for $75 at NoirJewelry.com. The other studded jewelry that can be seen in the video, including the Brooklyn Bridge ring and the pyramid studded bracelets are also available at NoirJewelry.com.
Do you have a friend who is as obsessed with studs as Ms. Eye4Style and I? Tell me about it!
There's a part of each and every one of us that wishes they could be a rockstar. Some of us act on our wishes by wearing too much black eyeliner and buying tough black leather boots for our nights out, while the rarest of us go on to be bonafide rockstars. One such rockstar is Semi Precious Weapons frontman, Justin Tranter, who knows the importance of a great smokey eye and killer accessories.
Taking the "killer accessories" literally, Justin founded a line of accessories known as Fetty, initially designed to be sold at Semi Precious Weapons shows. The necklaces feature precious (and semi-precious) stone adorned weapons with style names including Shot Through The Heart (my favorite, at left), Love Bites, Butcher's Love and I Saw My Heart. Fetty is offered in three price points - Royalty, available exclusively at Barney's New York, Boutique and Urban (sold at Urban Outfitters). You can still buy Fetty at every Semi Precious Weapons show, but these days, you'll find the band opening The Monster Ball with Grammy nominees Kid Cudi & Lady Gaga.
In case you haven't had enough rock & roll glamour for one post, check out Semi Precious Weapons performing my favorite song off their upcoming record, appropriately named Put A Diamond In It & Bite Down in the video below.
