Heart To Palm: Lush Reduces Palm Oil

(Admittedly, I understand that I am SO behind on this news. However, helping the environment is always a good thing!) Back in August, Lush announced a new reformulation of their soap products in an effort to significantly reduce the amount of palm oil needed to manufacture their soaps. The three year process lead to a new palm oil free soap base - Lush is the first cosmetics company to take a stand against the palm oil harvested from the Indonesian Rainforrest.

While my mom was here, we stopped by the SoHo Lush location to take part in a pledge to reduce our palm oil consumption. She had a wonderful time, transferring her handprint to the store windows and learning about the deforrestation of the Indonesian rainforrest in the process.

As I got Spring-ready yesterday, I turned to my favorite no-fail products for looking bare-leg worthy.

As much as this might be considered embarrassing, I'm going to admit that I hate shaving. I'm 6'2" and it takes me a heck of a long time to shave these tree trunks, which is exactly why I love the Schick Intuition razor. It makes it quick and easy, without having to worry about shaving cream or razor burn, a few quick swipes and you're done. I've read a lot of negative things my peers have to say about this product. The truth is, I've had pretty negative experiences with the majority of self tanners on the market. I figured I might as well give this one a shot because I was going to have a tanning disaster any way I went about it. If you use it correctly, Tan In A Can will blow your mind. Here's the trick: Take a shower, exfoliate well, and towel dry. While you're still in the shower, spray a fine mist over your legs and rub it in. When you're done, rinse your shower and wash your hands. Voila! Now you have glowing, bronzed legs.

Personally, I've never been one to hit the bars in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. I prefer to stay away from the madness and celebrate in private (aka drink at home with good tv). Whether you share my same style or paint the town green, there's no reason you can't steal some luck of the Irish yourself - with Lush's Luck of the Irish bath bomb. Charcoal Saved My Face

During Fashion Week, we managed to sneak away and pop into the Lush store near Union Square. We'd never tried any of their products, but we'd always heard good things. After a quick trip snack from Tasti D Lite, we managed to convince Mr. Man it would be a perfectly harmless shopping experience (which it was).

We were introduced to Coalface, a facial bar designed to extract dirt from pores, remove excess oil, and exfoliate. Our skin is the unruliest of unruliest, producing more oil than a refinery. This bar not only quickly removed any traces from our skin, but kept oil at bay all day long. It may not be the prettiest product, or have the best scent, but it certainly does the job. In fact, it's new nickname is Oil Tamer. It will always have a special place in our soap dish.

While we haven't tried it, our next coal product purchase will be Origins Clear Improvement ($20), a mask which uses Active Charcoal to cleanse pores and revive skin.
