Vivienne Tam Fall 2009 Presentation

Last night established and well-respected designer Vivienne Tam sent the fashion industry on it's ear - she embraced online media.  Leveraging her partnership with HP (remember the iconic Vivienne Tam X HP clutch everyone was buzzing about last Fashion Week?), her presentation included four HP Touchsmart computers intended to serve as "live blogging" stations for those attending the presentation. Though most people Twittered and checked replies, it served as an excellent opportunity for fashionable social media addicts to bond over their mutual passions, and get to know one another beyond their avatar interaction.

What would a Fashion Week presentation be without a discussion of the clothing? To be blunt, it was phenomenial. Finally a designer who understands that showing a collection in February means the clothes will be sold during the Fall 2009 season - a message most other designers seem to be missing the boat on (Erin Fetherston, Miss Sixty, Marc Jacobs).  The luscious jewel toned reds and purple popped against the detailed blacks, greys and whites.  Vivienne is known for her attention to detail and a knack for mixing textures, and this collection didn't disappoint.

Although the collection was inspired by the Chinese character for "nothingness", the designer radiates when she explains that "nothing can come from something" and "something can come from nothing".  "When there is uncertainty in the cosmos, when desires overwhelm--only an empty heart and clear mind lead to purity."

Check out backstage and collection photos of the presentation below.  For another perspective, check out Eye4Style's presentation and backstage photos.
